Where to start developing your website ideas for small business owners - a brief overview.
The article below will give you a brief overview of the web design process. You should at least read it through before you meet with your web designer for the first time.

Where to start?
Have a look around the web and make note of what appeals to you on other websites. Have a look at the different areas that these sites cover eg. products, contact, about, etc. We need to know who you are in order to create an effective website. Whether your site is for personal use or business.
What do you want to highlight? What is your service? What is your product? Why is it unique? And much more!!
Time to get the details about you, your product or your service.
What is it, what can it do for me, why do I need it, how much does it cost and how can I get it? Do you have pictures or do we need to create some? What is the message you want to send out to the world?
The name you choose is critical!
And so is the company you choose to host that site. You may already have an idea of what you want to do, and that's great! If not, we can help.It can be difficult to know who you can trust out there. My first recommendation for acquiring a host for your new website, is to ask your webmaster, your friends or your business partners. If they are willing to share that information with you, it highly likely that the service they receive is good.
Don't be fooled by the price of hosting either. Just because a host has high prices does not always mean they provide good service. Again, try to get a recommendation!
The best thing to do of course is to ask for a recommendation from your webmaster.

Choosing a domain name for your new website can be daunting. Firstly, you are going to have to get creative - we will help you if you need it! You will need a list because your first choice may already be in use.
Plumber, lawyer, market, jewellery whatever your domain name should be related to what you do. For example, a plumber might use something like www.unplugged.com or www.draindoctor.net. Ultimately you want your webpage name to say what you do and create curiosity about what you do.
Search engines are a major factor in getting your site viewed. These search engines look for websites based on the keywords entered by their users. So, I'm looking for a lawyer...I go to a search engine and type in 'lawyer'. What is more likely to be produced in this search? www.legallawyer.com or www.jasonjasonandsons.com.
Check out the websites of your direct competition. What kind of names are they using? If you chose a name similar to theirs it is very likely that their name will come up in a search right beside yours. Steer clear of similar domain names unless you want to take advantage of their name as a strategic marketing decision.
There a large number of online businesses opening their doors everyday and they are all looking for the best domain name for their site. Once you have that list of possible names, and you have them in the order of the ones you like the best, get it registered! You do not need to have a completed website to register your domain name. Wait until the next day and POOF someone else has got it!
